Week 8: Last week in Jerusalem

Hello Y'all! Update time! I have an interview next week with a new internship. Wish me luck! I am also moving back to Tel Aviv this weekend. But, lets see what I did this week:

So You Think You Can Dance Saturday: Today, I walked and ran around the apartment complex. It's Sabbath and everything closes. So, I was basically stuck in my room all day. Since I was stuck, I cleaned and did laundry.

SVU Sunday: Last day at my internship. Then we said goodbye to Alona who was moving to Tel Aviv as well.

Magic School Bus Monday: I found out I was moving to Tel Aviv this weekend so I packed one suitcase.

The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon Tuesday: I took the trash out. I listened to music and sang along. I also drew some things. Went to this not so really "rabbi" study class and then came home and watched a little of Fiddler on the Roof before bed.

The Walking Dead Wednesday: I worked on my final for my first class of my post-graduate certificate degree. I had to write 9 short essays. So much fun...not!

That 70s Show Thursday: Today I start my move back to TLV! I worked some more on my final and then when Hannah got back, we went to TLV. I got sushi with Nathan, Alona, Beni, Lia, and Mariel for dinner. Then Chanah, me, and some other girls and some guys went to go to The Secret Garden for drinks but we couldn't get in because we didn't know the owner. So, we went back to Chanah's and we drank water LOL. Fun Night!

Friends Friday: I finished my final and submitted it. Then, I sat at the beach for a bit and just relaxed. At night, Nathan and I went to this nice Italian place and we had a BFFL date lol

Well, That was my week! Hope next week is a lot more interesting!

Week 7: Scary Week!

Shalom Y'all!
I wanted to start off saying that this week has been scary no terrifying for me. There have been so many terrorist attacks. We never know when or where they would take place. I want everyone to know that what the press is saying isn't true. The Palestinians are attacking innocent people. Israel is doing all they can to protect their citizens. I feel as though the U.S. doesn't care about their citizens over here, otherwise news reports and what Obama  and Kerry are saying would be different. Please pray for Israel. The barriers that are put up now are working, but they won't last forever. If things get worse, I will go home because I cannot live in a world where I am terrified to go outside.

On another note, I did have a good beginning of the week. Enjoy what I did this week.

Saturday Scaturday: I went to get sushi with Mariel and Alona It was yummy! Then we met up with Nathan and headed to the beach! Soon David, Lia, Liat, and Shai all joined us. It was a blast! I got taken out by 3 waves in a row. But, it was still fun! That night, David and I got some Shawarma before we headed to Chanah's for Havdalah service. I got to hold the candle. Afterwards, we
talked for a little bit before I had to leave to head back to Jerusalem.

Miss. Sassypants Sunday: Work Day! Blah! I pretty much learned what I had to do on the daily. Then when I got home, I did laundry! Yay! Clean clothes! LOL! I started to feel sicker later that night: UH OH!

Mama oooooo It's Monday: I was officially sick AGAIN! I kept having horrible coughing fits and my sinuses were killing me. I took the day off to rest and see a doctor. The doctor informed me that I have a sinus infection. I hate sinus infections! I drank so much tea today. That night we had a safety meeting and I felt at the time that everything would be a okay.

Timmy Turner's Tuesday Tacos: Back at work. Then I went and got my medicine. I love it when medicine is free! Today was scary. Today, so many terror attacks happened. There was an attack on a bus. I was scared to go anywhere. I hate it here in Jerusalem. It's supposed to be a Holy city but it's a terrifying city. I couldn't get a cab home from the pharmacy so I took my usual bus. Everything seemed fine but I was so nervous. I don't like this at all.

What Would Gus Do Wednesday: Took the day off again because I was getting sicker. While lying in bed, I came to realize that my internship isn't for me, it isn't what I want to do. All I do all day is read articles. That isn't being productive. I asked my adviser if I can switch Internships. I just have to wait until tomorrow to talk to her. Today, a lady was stabbed in about the same spot that I was standing yesterday. This scares me. I could've been there. I want to get away. I don't like this. Why????

Think About It Thursday: Today was boring. I worked then came home and rested.

Le Freak Friday: Worked a little bit even though it was the weekend. Then I came home and slept all day since I had a bad headache. I am starting to feel better though. There haven't been that many terrorist attacks the last couple days. I am still very terrified though. I hope I can switch my internship to a place in Tel Aviv. I feel safer there.

That was my week. Come back next week where we find out where I'll be living and working.

XOXO

Week 6: Moving to Jerusalem and Starting the Internship

So this is Saturday: I didn't do much but I did pack up some things. In the afternoon, I saw this Natalie Portman movie. It was all in hebrew so it was hard to understand but I got the jest of the movie. Portman's character was a mom during the independence day war before Israel was a country. In the movie, it shows how scary their lives were and how they had to live. Portman's character's family lived within the walls of the old city. I don't want to give away too much, but the movie was really good and I recommend it. I believe the name of the movie is A Tale of Love and Darkness. That night I went to a bracelet bar called Backy Bar. It's like an all you can drink bar. I had fun! I went with David, Rachel, Chanah, and Nathan.

Hey sugar, it's Sunday: Oh man, never again! I was hungover! I went to breakfast with Chanah and had a bagel that was bigger than my head! And then Alona, Marina, and I tried to go to the Tel Aviv Museum but it was closed. So, we went to the Azraeli Mall instead. Rachel then joined us. Then I went back to Leni to rest and pack some more.

Don't Panic! It's Monday: Last day in Tel Aviv! I finished packing what I could. Then at night, we went to Rabin Square in Tel Aviv to celebrate Simchat Torah! We sag and danced with Israelis. It was such a fun experience. There were fireworks as well! And, at one point, we started a dance circle. Afterwards, we went back to my room and Chanah and I talked and had ice cream. Then David and Nathan came by to say goodbye. Nathan, the big goof that he is, only gave my hug goodbye.

It's Tricky! Tuesday: Bye Bye TLV! We started the day with a early breakfast (like 5am early!) at Benedict's. It was so delicious. Then we got on the bus and headed to Jerusalem. When we got to Jerusalem, we picked rooms and unpacked a little bit. We then headed out on a tour of the area. After the tour, we went to the Central Bus Station to get our Rav Kavs aka bus/light rail passes. A few of us ate dinner there. Then we headed back to the apartments.

You were like Woah and the we were like Woah...it's Wednesday: First day of the internships! I can only say that I read articles. I'm not sure what I can cannot say about my work since I work in a sensitive field. In the evening, we met up with one of our leaders, Itzik! He took us to this soup place. The sweet potato soup was amazing!

That's like so 90s Thursday: At work, I translated stuff from Spanish to English and worked on more article stuff. That evening, Alona and I went back to Tel Aviv for Esther's birthday. We had a few drinks and we walked around for a bit. Then I went to sleep.

It's Friday, Friday, Getting Down on Friday: I went to the beach with Nathan and Alona. The waves were huge! Liat joined us and we conquered the waves together. After the beach, Shai, Lia, Liat, Nathan, Alona, David F., and David T., and I all saw Everest in 3D! It was a good but emotional movie. I will never climb Everest! For dinner, David T, Alona, and I went over to Chanah's for Shabbat dinner. Everything was delicious, especially the matzo ball soup and apple crumble that Chanah made. After dinner, David, Chanah, and I went to the beach and sat and talked for hours. At one point, we saw a bright light heading towards us. We thought we were going to die. It was only an airplane! Then we walked Chanah back to her apartment and David and I walked back to Beit Leni aka the Israel Experience apartment building.

And that was my week!

North Trip and More!

Shalom Y'all! This week we headed North and it was such a blast! We did so much! I loved it!

Sassy Saturday: I spent the day getting over my cold (in which I currently still have a cough). That night Rachel and I went to Sidewalk, a yummy restaurant that played awesome oldies music. That was my Saturday.

Sunday Crayday: I went with Nathan to sent some postcards. I hope the one I sent doesn't take 2 weeks to get the person like the one I sent to my parents did. The post office was interesting. Everything was in Hebrew. We had to figure out our numbers in Hebrew. Then, Nathan went to get his haircut. They were really nice. Gave us free water! After that, we got snacks for the North Trip. Since Sukkot started that night, we had a potluck dinner in the Sukkah. I liked it. It was very chill.

Mischief Managed Monday: I washed some towels before I went to the beach. Things in Tel Aviv end up sandy a lot. Maybe it's because I go to the beach so much. Haha. I didn't really do a lot after the beach. But, Alona, Nathan, and I went to this Italian restaurant called Gusto. It was so yummy! I love Italian. I think I was an Italian Jewish Sarcastic Princess in the past! And then I finished packing for the North Trip.

Tuesday Snoozeday: North Trip! First we went to a school and we talked to a teacher who is an Israeli Arab and some kids who are also Israeli Arabs. The kids seem very similar to us. They all have goals and aspirations similar to us. It was cool to hear that they already know what they want to do at age 16. When I was 16, I wanted to be an actress and that's all. I didn't know what I wanted to do until a year ago (age 22). I still want to do so many things as well as be a counter-terrorist analyst. The kids also stated that they argue with their parents, just like us! ha! Then we went on a 3 1/2 hour hike in the Galilee/Golan Heights. It was cool but exhausting. After the hike, we went to talk to some dude who lives on the border of Lebanon and Israel. He was a bit out there but I give him my respect. Anyone who lives near Hezbollah, gets my respect.

We Wear Pink Wednesday: Another hiking day! Today it was a shorter hike for me! We did a 2 1/2 hour hike. First we hiked down to a stream and hung out there or an hour or so. I went into the water and it was freezing. I think I lost feeling in my toes at one point. At the stream there was a Syrian tank that fell off a cliff during one of the wars. We then walked back up the hill and walked to a beautiful waterfall. In Florida we don't really have waterfalls, so this was awesome. I love waterfalls. They melt my heart when I look at their beauty. After the hike, we went to a helicopter memorial. There was an accident in 1997 where two helicopters heading out to war collided during bad weather. No one survived. The memorial was beautiful in its own way. It was very moving. After the memorial, we headed up the Golan Heights to Mt. Bental aka the place Birthright takes every group to see the borders of Israel and Lebanon and Syria. This was my third time there. The bunker on the mountain was closed last time but not this time. Chanah and I went into the bunker and when we got back out, we couldn't figure our way back down to the group. Eventually, with the help of our tour guide, we found our way out. While we were there, we blew bubbles as a sign of peace. You may think this was all we did since it's a lot, but there is more! We then went rafting down the Jordan River! Our group kept getting stuck. We also got hit by a few branches, ok so a lot of branches. I think I finally stopped seeing branches. We also did a mitzvah! Someone from our group lost a shoe and she got out of her group's raft to save it but their raft kept going so she was stuck. We ended up rescuing her. It was so much fun! After rafting, we went to the camp site. We had a bonfire and s'mores. We were sleeping in Bedouin type tents. So, when I was trying to sleep, they were having a jam session in the girl's tent and it was pissing me off because I had a headache and I just wanted to sleep. Soon it was over and I returned to being Happy Haley. That was a lot in one day!

Think About It Thursday: Last day of the North Trip! We started the day off the day by olive picking! I flippin love olives! And we got to keep some! Then, we went to the Kineret for lunch and to swim! If you don't know, the Kineret is also the Sea of Galilee. The food was amazing and the water was perfect! I loved it! Ugh! Israel, why are you so perfect? That was the end of the North Trip because then we headed back to Tel Aviv. In the end, I loved the trip. I hate stairs after the trip but I have to get over that.

Flip It! It's Friday: I did pretty much nothing all day. For dinner, I went with Alex, Nathan, and David to get sushi at this place called Omani. We then went to Max Brenner to get dessert. It was so good. I think Max Brenner is what heaven feels like haha! I then went to the other apartment complex to hang out with some amazing people like Charlotte and Chanah. And then I hung out with Rachel and we did some girl talk aka talking about boys and life. I think I had an amazing week!

Have a great week!
