My Top Ten Travel Tips!

I've flown internationally twice now, plus a few trips to NY and a trip to California. Not to mention all the driving trips I've taken. So here are my top ten travel tips:

  1. Roll, don't fold your clothes. You'll have more room in your suitcase.
  2. If you are going on a trip for one or two weeks, pick out outfits and place them in ziploc bags and name each bag by day you will wear it or write what is in each bag. You can place your dirty laundry in the bags. No more not knowing what is clean and dirty or finding a way to separate them.
  3. If going international, place travel papers (like copies of passport and embassy information) and some currency in different locations. Keep a copy of your travel papers in each bag you have with you.
  4. Keep all valuables with you. Some examples include, jewelry, makeup, medicines, etc.
  5. Put an extra outfit in your carry on bag. If you spill on your shirt or pants, you can go to the bathroom and change instead of sitting in wet clothes.
  6. Always tell someone you trust where you are going. If you are going internationally, tell the embassy in the country you will be going to that you will be in that country. For example, if I were to be going to Italy, I would tell the U.S. Embassy in Italy that I will be there.
  7. Speaking of embassies, ALWAYS know where the local embassy is. If you lose your passport, you can go to them and they will help you.  If anything at all happens, they will be able to help.
  8. Learn the customs of the place you are going to. You don't want to offend anyone.
  9. Dress appropriately. If you know that where you are going, you have to be covered head to toe, than do so. Also, if it is suppose to be -5 degrees Fahrenheit out, don't wear a tank top and short shorts. You will freeze to death. Same with if it is 100 degrees Fahrenheit, don't wear heavy black long sleeves and pants.
  10. Be aware of your surroundings. And don't be afraid to ask for directions if you are lost.
